The Pyramid Approach to Education Overview presents your team with a framework you can use in designing an environment that will optimise learning for people who have autism and/or related developmental disabilities. We provide an introduction to each of the elements needed and explain how they relate to each other. We begin with foundational components that make up the base of the Pyramid: teaching meaningful skills, incorporating reinforcement systems to promote learning, teaching expressive and receptive communication skills, and understanding why inappropriate behaviour occurs in order to develop more appropriate responses. The elements at the top of the Pyramid include generalising skills, using effective teaching strategies and systematic error correction procedures, and collecting and analysing your data. After attending this introduction, you will have a new perspective on making your learning environment dynamic.
